How to create a screen capture.

A screen capture is simply an image of the screen (chart ) you are viewing on your monitor. There are a variety of software image programs available. We prefer and use CPIC.EXE made by Photodex corp. It is inexpensive and easy to use. It will also convert chart formats for more compact posting.

Paint, a program available in windows accessories, will also allow you to convert from Jpg to Gif.

If you own the Coast Trading Package or CQG you can create a screen capture internally without the use of Image software.

For CTP just right click on the chart, select export chart, select Png, set dimension width at 7.5 inches and height at 70%. The chart will go into the directory you choose.

In CQG just print to the clipboard. Select gif. The chart will go into the directory you choose.

Server space.

You help us to maintain the archived forums by being conservative on the chart size you post.

Size does not refer to the dimensions of the chart, rather the size in KB. Gif and Png formats are the best. They have high quality and small size in KB.

Most of the CQG charts shown on the forums are Gif format and about 15KB. They are clean clear and crisp. They are saved in 16 colors.

CTP charts are about 30KB and are stored in Png format. They are also clean and crisp.

If you have the choice, you can help us to keep the KB size small by saving in 256 or 16 colors rather than 16 million. In pixels a 930 width and 650 height is very large and very clear. In inches about 11 width and 8 in height is good. The aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height. If you maintain an aspect ratio consistent with the width and height suggested above your charts will be easy to read.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about just save a chart and post it. We'd rather have an oversized or hard to read chart  than none at all.

Happy posting,
